What if all you had to do in life was show up and receive exactly what you want and need? This just happened to me.
I was in the mountains over the Independence Day holiday, celebrating my sister’s birthday. She had booked time at a lovely mountain resort, far away from the July 4th fire crackers that drive her dog into the smallest, darkest spot in the house, which just happens to be her teensy tinesy bathroom. Believe me, having to straddle a 90-pound labrador just to do your business is an awkward experience for everyone!
So we took to the mountains to find some peace and quiet. There I had time to ponder this question: How do you discover your heart’s desire after mid-life?
You know you want to step out from where you are now, but what do you use to create your next dance when you don't know what your next dance is?
First, clear the dance floor. Write down all the doubts that come up about what's possible for you. Put the list in a safe, out of the way place. Trust me, your doubts aren't going anywhere!
You want to get doubt out of the way because doubt crushes desire and you are about to experience a taste of desire.
Ready? Here's the secret: give yourself permission to receive.
Receive? What the heck does that mean?
Here's how I experienced "receiving" while at our mountain resort last week:
We arrived late at night, but no matter. Our dinner was waiting for us at the front desk. From there, we were led along a smooth, lighted path to our cozy room facing a pond where dragonflies danced. Down comforters kept us cozy at night and over-flowing, fresh-from-the farm buffet meals kept us sated during the day. The staff and other guests were genuinely kind. We spent our days strolling the grounds, swimming in the rock-lined pool, reading under leafy trees, discovering the sculptures hidden in nature, watching the birds and deer, and hiking along a rushing mountain stream.
Everything was provided for. All we had to do was show up.
All we had to do was show up.
We were in a fricking Disney movie. Even the birds were there for me.
Sweet.
Now, you may be thinking that life is not a Disney movie. I'm challenging you to tuck that thought away in your box of doubts. Stay open to the possibility that, for this moment, life truly is a wonderland.
Or, you may be thinking, "I don't want to live in a Disney movie." Awesome! You get to imagine any movie that lights your fire and makes you say, "Yes! I want that!"
Because you deserve to live a life that lights you up. You deserve to say "yes" to desire.
Are you ready to play the Disney game? Follow the steps below:
Imagine Receiving
- Have you ever had an experience of receiving everything you want?
- Have you ever been delighted by an experience that was better than what you expected? That just appeared?
- Have you ever had an ordinary experience turn magical, just by who you were with?
Take a moment to picture that experience of receiving now. Close your eyes, and imagine waking up to that abundance. Imagine it in detail. Where are you? What do you hear? What does the air feel like? How does it smell? What do you see? What are you wearing? Who are you with? What are you doing?
Take a deep breath and let all your sensations in.
Now, let your feelings in. What are you feeling right now?
When you are clear on your feelings, open your eyes and write down everything you remember.
Put the feelings you wrote down in a place where you will see them every day. They are the music for your next dance.
What are the top 3 feelings on your list? Post them in the comments below!
